I’m so excited to finally share my thoughts and experiences with you in this space. As I sit down to write my very first blog post, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and gratitude. There’s so much I want to say, and I can’t wait to dive into the journey we’re about to embark on together.
For this inaugural post, I thought it would be fitting to share some of my personal experiences as a therapist. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with many incredible clients, but I’ve also learned that we, as therapists, can face our own challenges. Yes, we can suffer from pain if we’re not careful! My work often involves repetitive strain injuries, and the hours spent writing up notes can lead to strain on my body. It’s a bit ironic, isn’t it? The very work that brings me joy can also take a toll if I don’t prioritize my own self-care.
This realisation has made it imperative for me to keep my body as limber and healthy as possible. After all, how can I continue to do what I love if I’m not taking care of myself? When I first embarked on my journey into Body Mechanics, I was fortunate to have a mentor like Olive. She was a force of nature, and her passion for our craft was infectious. Olive was insistent that to truly help our clients, we must lead by example. I loved her “old school” techniques for keeping us in check, whether it was a gentle tap on the back of our legs or that unmistakable look she would give us when we slouched. Those little reminders served as a wake-up call, and I still carry them with me today.
As I delved deeper into emotional modalities, my understanding of the mind-body connection expanded in ways I never expected. I began to realize that when we are stressed or worried, our posture and self-care often take a backseat. It’s so easy to forget about ourselves when life gets hectic, isn’t it? The more I explored the subconscious connections between our emotions and physical health, the more I experienced those lightbulb moments. I discovered that making postural changes, combined with practices like Reiki and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), could dramatically reduce the time it took to help my clients.
This magic combination not only addressed physical discomfort but also retrained the brain, leading to remarkable improvements in body awareness and use. It was like unlocking a hidden door to a new level of healing! Over the years, I identified additional trigger points that helped lengthen, release, and realign muscles, and I continue to be amazed by the results. Each client’s journey is unique, and witnessing their transformations is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
I’m excited to share more insights, tips, and personal stories with you in future posts. Whether it’s exploring self-care practices, discussing the latest techniques in therapy, or simply sharing a bit of my journey, I hope to create a space where we can learn and grow together. Thank you for joining me on this adventure of exploration and self-discovery! Here’s to embracing our journeys, both as therapists and as individuals, and to the beautiful connections we’ll make along the way.
